MSF is just a degree, it does not determine what you are going to do in the future.I have seen a top MFE graduate work as an accountant in a hospital. I agree with yelu1988, it really depends on you interests and your efforts. Corporate Finance/Accounting/Equity Research/Asset Management/Investment Banking/Private Equity/S&T.... Anything is possible. Many Chinese believe they can actually get a XX job by getting a YY degree, taking MM courses or taking NN exams. I just think that they are very naive. There are many many more things you need to do. For example, if you want to pursue a job in equity research, beside taking as many accounting courses and valuation courses as you can, you also need to follow the market. WSJ, reuters, bloomberg are you best friends. Read as many research reports as you can get a hand on, learn how to use software such as Bloomberg and Factset. Join the investment club at your school, learn and practise how to do stock pitches. Polish your resumes and cover letters, get as many experienced people to read them, and keep working on them until nobody can find any non-controversial improvements. (My resumes and cover letters were edited 100+ times). Attend as many on corporate presentations as you can, talk to the people doing equity research and ask smart questions. Follow up with them and arrange as many information interviews with people from the companies you are interested in as you can. Utilize the alumni resources you have.... To be honest with you, the above mentioned things are just the basic. There are still many many things I have not covered. I'm sure someone who is actually in the equity research field can fill a lot more in. Unfortunately, many people have no idea what they are doing and what they want to do in the future when they come to US. They can't communicate well and they don't know how to network with people. By the time they have a sense of what they want to do in the future, one year has passed and they are about to graduate... how can you expect them to secure offers? -- by 会员 ibanking (2010/3/18 12:08:50)
