The author alleges that the main function of the TV is education rather than entertainment. I strongly oppose the opinion because its conclusion is too absolute and conflicts our daily common sense. In most cases, people watch TV for fun. For examples, the seniors seldom select the education program; instead they prefer spend time on movies. Also, the housewives would like to indulge in the romantic films to fulfill their spiritual requirements. That is the reason that the soap opera is popular all over the world. In addition, the children enjoy seeing the cartoon. Moreover, even well educated talents prefer comic scenarios because they need relax from the heavy workload. Besides, the most advertisers believe commercial is the most basic element of the TV, thus most important element because TV can’t run without the contribution of the advertisement industry. Moreover, they uniquely claim that the entertainment programs are much valuable than others, so they are willing to invest tons of money to promote products between these programs. For examples, ‘ Just do it, do it yourself’ is showed between funny movies, rarely between the education programs. Admittedly, TV really educates the people, especially for the students. We can find millions students watch TV to learn English because the voice and picture provide a vivid living environment. However, we can’t expand this purpose extremely. If we survey the TV channel, we can find less 10 % broadcasting education programs, let alone those interested in the programs. In conclusion, we agree that TV can play a positive role in education. Nevertheless, we don’t think it’s the most important function of TV. Others facts, such as entertainment, commercial are also very pivotal for the TV programs |
