MBA is different from PhD aplication.  Maybe my words are too stright.  I do not think there is a high probability to get admission from top 50-100 for you.  I am sorry for my strightness.  But I am honesty.

Dear Brettthompson:

Thanks for your reply,About the GMAT and TOEFL,it sounds like a question of critical reasonning. They are essential conditions but not sufficient ones, right?

I will try to apply for non-finance majors, especially in Marketing. Is it good to take the speciality ranking of U.S News as a referrence?Because my background isn't competitive, should I not apply for the u. before 10th in speciality ranking?

I will be very appreciated of your kind help

Frankly, I don't want to discourage you. But I would like to tell you something I heard from some PhD program advisors.

Besides all the discussion above, you may have a big weakness: you are not currently in USA.

In fact, for many phd programs in USA, it is too hard for a Chinese students to get admitted directly from China or other countries, because you would have high risk in getting visa, and you are taken granted that your English is not so good. These two points would not published in the public websites, but you can get the similiar information if you talk with some PhD students and advisors in USA.

Secondly, because the job market for international PhD graduates rank as: Accounting, Finance, MIS, Marketing, Business, so it seems the competition in finance major is tougher than others. So please consider it.

Unless you are a big cow, otherwise, you must have difficulties in getting admission in US B-school PhD program in Finance, so I suggest you to apply a good portfolio, not only including the top 100.

Certainly, I am not a big cow, so I just did what I can do best. Good luck, buddy:-)

If you interested in a specific area, do not easily give it up just due to the high competition in admission. These should be a lot of way to solve this problem. But if you change your study area, in this case, you will change you career focus. Well, if you have not got high GPA, you could apply for the B-school ranking at 50-150.

Everything just depends on your furture life and carrer plan, and welcome to discuss about this issue.

Unless you will got much higher T&G scores, and will have very strong rec. letters from those U.S degree holders, and plus a really eye-catching essay, your chance of getting into top 100 schools is not that favorable. Sorry for my words. Finance program would be impossible to get in, solely based on the info your provided.

Actually Freerabbit stated very clearly about the hidden rules that applied in US b-school recruitment process. Every Chinese applicants outside of US confront this without any exceptions.

Try to improve every single aspects in your application credentials. Sometimes second or third tier schools are more picky about  T&G scores, that says, it's likely you would be able to be admitted by very top or very low ranking schools with an average scores, however, this case only applies to when you have very strong supporting materials like excellent reference letters, outstanding essays, or some insiders you know would help you..etc.

Do not give up, there're still many ways to improve yourself, and good luck!

Thank both of you very much.

anyway,I searched the B-school from 50-80,the more I got,the more I felt dicouraged because every school requires a GPA above 3.5 for master graduate study. But I still don't give up the efforts and hope now.I wished to finish the school searching as soon as possible, then, consulting with you on those choosen schools.
