Frankly, I don't want to discourage you. But I would like to tell you something I heard from some PhD program advisors. Besides all the discussion above, you may have a big weakness: you are not currently in USA. In fact, for many phd programs in USA, it is too hard for a Chinese students to get admitted directly from China or other countries, because you would have high risk in getting visa, and you are taken granted that your English is not so good. These two points would not published in the public websites, but you can get the similiar information if you talk with some PhD students and advisors in USA. Secondly, because the job market for international PhD graduates rank as: Accounting, Finance, MIS, Marketing, Business, so it seems the competition in finance major is tougher than others. So please consider it. Unless you are a big cow, otherwise, you must have difficulties in getting admission in US B-school PhD program in Finance, so I suggest you to apply a good portfolio, not only including the top 100.
