I have a MS from CMU. Not to discourage you or anything, but my general advices for you are:
1. CMU's alumni network is weak compared to other schools, doesn't help placement much. CMU reputation is strong in East Coast but very weak in West Coast.
2. CMU CS is very strong, the rest are not very impressive. Many Tepper students in my view are average. Many CMU CS undergraduates make more money than graduate students.
3. Pittsburgh has nothing to do, no social life, and no good chinese food (Lucky is about the best I've had). You will get sick of eating $4 food truck and $9 LuLu very soon. But the post-11pm half-off in all restaurants are very cheap.
4. Pittsburgh as town is depressing, not many jobs. Many people move on to New York (finance) or Washington DC (public sector). |
