I do believe there is fundamental difference between OT and strategy...strategy is methodological individualism, if not reductionism. OT, rooted in sociology, is more or less structural determinism: organizational institutionalism and organizational ecology deny much space for agency. Although they aim to explain the opposite questions, they both arise as critique to management theory that focuses on adaptation. Resource dependence (network) is a meso-level structuration-type theory, but by no means agentic. You can argue that institutional work/entrepreneur etc. incorporates agency, but still, sociology is sociology. |
