Dear peers Let me share a true personal experience with you: When I first came to Singapore 10 yrs ago, many local ppl, majority are Chinese race, had a biased view on mainland Chinese, looking down us as the poor guys from a backward country except for the strong academic performance Chinese scholars have achieved. While, due to the rapid growth of China economy, many of my classmates started to talk to us to find out the business opportunities in China during the graduating year in 2000. By now, Singapore government has spent tons of money on advertisement in China to attract the new generation of rich mid-class mainland Chinese to travel and shop in Singapore. - a 180 turn in their view. Similarly, I used to hear HKee to call mainland Chinese as "Liao Biao", and now my HK colleagues keep asking us to visit and shop in HK for one single reason to boost the local economy. Thus, one of the courses to change the mindset of those in another side of Straits is to further develop China economy and at the same time strengthen bilateral interaction. Treat them as friends not foes, and unite them via comprehensive strength not merely military force. cheers |
