Cornell MFE 还是 Columbia MAFN的艰难抉择！ 拜托各位了！！！！！！

2月22号面试的。我们那一批调剂邮件发下来之后，一部分人又收到一封邮件，说调剂邮件发错了，改成了wait-list。希望你能收到想要的录取。

其实上面说的这点不是没有道理。我最近也在纽约找暑期实习面了不少公司（基本是买方和中小型投行），当然我都是直接联系MD以上的，和HR交流不多。从我面试和他们聊天感觉，确实很多人分不清，不只是分不清专业，连研究生本科还是商学院都不一定分得清。我简历上写着GT 本科，哥大金数硕士，很多人一上来就问我“那你开学了是哥大大四了吧”。。。。还有人我前一句说完金数，后一句他就来一句“我也是哥大MBA毕业的”。。。。。当然也有可能是他们太忙，没空细看我简历。

这些高管基本都是藤校本科/MBA, 在BB里干过很多年的。不过我不知道是不是因为他们都不常和没什么经验的毕业生打交道所以这样。可能正真BB的HR是会有区分的。

You think too highly of me haha. I just know internship and entry level jobs recruiting more cuz I went through some. And I have friends who did as well. I also know American culture wel since I have been in us for very long time. I will study at Columbia business school msc financial economics.
I believe completion makes the program better. Cornell places ppl in risks very well. For example Jo Morgan holds campus wide competitions every year there. Top placed teams got automatic interviews .
Columbia career services is lacking. I think that is challenging for many international students. They simply don't know how to network. They don't know how to use Columbia resources or brand name to their advantage. Networking gets you interviews. Your level of knowledge and communications determine your interview performance and whether u will get the job or not. You go to a U.S. college. You should do better than international students. Also if you want to get great offers, not just many offers, you need to speak up and talk to ppl. That is how ones become successful in finance. Just quietly doing work will not get you far.

I will give two examples to show you what I mean. Both students study the same major at Cornell undergrad. I think operation research? One is Chinese immigrant who is very quiet. He has very high gpa like 3.8. Another is abc who is very outgoing. He has like slightly more than 3 gpa. He is gonna work at Jp Morgan risk analyst. But the former student is gonna work at tier 2 bank. Both students did the same competitions as a team for Jp Morgan. Communications is really important in finance.

Congrats, I know Fin Econ is an awesome program. And yes, I have been networking extensively recently and have talked to several dozen people. And I feel that Columbia does do better than Cornell in terms of cold calling/emailing results. If I just want to get a finance job (either boutique banks or AM firms) in NYC I'll definitely choose Columbia. But what I am not so sure is about the chance for landing on a BB offer. I heard the HK recruiting results of these two programs are pretty similar. But since BBs in the US recruit mostly from target schools' on campus recruiting events, I feel like Cornell students may get a better chance due to much smaller class size.

Many ppl told me if I am confident, determinant, and willing to network aggressively then I should go to Columbia, so it's really a hard decision to make. But anyway, thanks for your insights and wish you success in your future career.

听说哥大金数很水，跟FE没法比。比较之下应该是MSOR更好，不过方向跟你又不同……
