If Admissions Committee of any US MBA schools have visited this forum, I can guaranttee you they won't admit any more Chinese applicants. Why? because they do not like people who only care about results. If a person's only motivation to do something is to get results and then show to the others, do you think he/she will care about the society? I have been in US for more than ten years. Do they care about results? Yes, they do, but through an incremental way. The most common way leading most American people to success is to take initiative, volunteer work, help people, work hard, accumulate credit, have impact, and finally get promotion or recognition.

In fact, I totally support your opinion. But, the problem is our guys, Chineses, have fewer opportunities to talk with admission officers face to face than do Americans, the action which is very important in application. So, we have to admit that GMAT is one of few valuable things we can provide, and we also have to admit that some B-schools, especially whose ranking is around 20~50, take GMAT score seriously. Of course, if we were at the same line with other American applicants, we should not keep our eyes in GMAT insanely.

High GMAT+Big Blue Chip+Top Undergrad (PKU, TSINGHUA, JIAOTONG, FUDAN)。

GMAT is just one thing in your application. I have the same GMAT score
like you (the Q and V are also the same). I got interview invitation
from Wharton. Besides, as we know, Columbia also likes guys with high
GMAT. But i ask the same question to Linda, assistant dean Columbia,
last year during the information session. She told me if I retake it, i
might be a nut. I also got interview invitation from Columbia.

What i wanna say is if you could feel more comfortable or confident
with high GMAT, and if u have free time, just retake it. but as u
mentioned...it's very time-consuming and energy-consuming.  I
believe high GMAT is definitely a plus for ur application. but if u r
strong enough in other aspects, just put much effort on your essays.

p.s. what i mean high GMAT is higher than 750....if u get 720 or 730...it won't have difference with 700.....

If you are sure that you can get higher than 740, I suggest that you go ahead to take it again.  It will help but not determinate.  I got same score as you and was admitted by one OK business school.
