答案是c，选的时候按照平行，可后来从逻辑角度看了一下，原句中说other purposes such as these,而c中说的是such purposes as,感觉原句中的意思应该是有其他的目的，然后用such as列举了几个，而c中就说有这么几个，逻辑意思好想不同？！

Phrase "such as "  has the meaning of "for example".I think perhaps the number of  paralleled illustrations is not important to the object elucidated(word "reason").

On the other hand,D is verbose for "the use of " and "purpose" are synonymies, and E is dissymmetric between "to be used" and "deciding".So the only possible right choice is C among C,D,E ,in which use the "like" rather than "as"..
