Hey Guys, is there anyone who wants to apply for Duke Fuqua? Here I’d like to share some application tips with you! Hope you’ll like it.

Duke Fuqua commonly appears in the Top Ten bschool rankings, and for good reason.Focusing on collaboration and international leadership, Fuqua consistently cranks out strong and competitive graduates that climb high on corporate ladders across the globe.

The key to getting in? Here are his five tips on what you should know about Duke:

1. A Diverse School. Unlike its partner schools in the northeast, Fuqua isn’t solely focused on Finance orConsulting. Duke MBA graduates go on a plethora of industries in various functions, including Healthcare and Non-Profit. Fuqua is also well-known for having more minorities as a portion of its student body than many other schools, priding itself on the collaboration of multiple cultural, gender, and industry perspectives. Showing how you fit into this melting pot will be agreat way to reach out to the adcom.

2. Fuqua Global Campus. In September 2008, Fuqua launched an expansion initiative to establish campuses in St. Petersburg, Dubai, Kunshan, New Delhi, and London. Duke is looking to establish itself as a heavyweight international program, pooling global resources to further their diverse domestic program. Applicants with international business aspirations will be smart to bear this in mind…

3. Global Academic Travel Experience (GATE). In this international program, you can study a country of yourchoice in breadth and depth for six weeks before taking a two-week trip yourself to get to know it firsthand. Having a strong international background is great coming in, but if you already have an idea for your specific GATE coursework,pitch it!

4. “FuquaFridays.” Fuqua Fridays are very informalstudent/faculty/staff get-togethers where people can spend some more time together and eat some free food. It’s held every Friday afternoon at 5 o’clockin the student center and helps to keep that collaborative, community characterfor which Duke strives. Take advantage in the app essays to figure out what you will bring to this community.

5. “Team Fuqua.” Collaborative leadership is the KEY to Fuqua. Being a leader doesn’t count for much if it’s not integrated with teamwork. Obviously they want self-starters, but individualists need not apply. If you love working in ateam, and you are naturally a friendly team person, this is the place for you. If you’ve got great team building experience in your background, bring it home in your essays.

Hello,
Sure it is possible to apply to Duke with a 3.2. Your chances though will depend on lots of things - what school did you get the 3.2 from? In what department? What work do you do? What was your GMAT? Your profile is made up of ALL the parts of your candidacy. A 3.2 does make things a bit harder for Top10 schools, that is true, but maybe you have other strengths which can help make up for it?

Thans Jon, I would like to describe myself more detailed.

I am an International Business and Economic student of University of Nottingham Ningbo. Because the limitation of courses, I do not have many mathmatic courses.

As a matter of fact, I would like to describe myslef as an explorer of current changing business world.

During my first year of University, I participated in lots of social activities as Directors/Chief Editors. I also roled as an organiser of Nottingham Social Entrepreneurship Competition, which aims at promoting social entrepreneurships in China and gets support from local government and business school.

I was selected as one of 7 1-year exchange students to University of Birimngham, during which time I was piked as my firend's best man to attend his gay wedding.

Now I live in Shanghai as a gap year taker to experience the very edge of China Econmy and Business world. Had internships in Marketing/Consulting/Asset Management area. During part time, I also help out a start-up company owned by a SAID MBA student.

I want to be an excellent consultant before I can actually run business - in fact I have already landed an offer from one top consulting firm, but I hope that I could learn more in Fuqua, and become a well-prepared consultant and a better entrepreneur.

Hello there,
Well in this case it’s a bit early to say. It seems like you have not so much experience, and since your application and the strength of your profile is also highly dependent on that, it’s maybe too early for an evaluation and to think about what schools to go to. Getting a great job in  high-profile firm (like McKinsey, Bain, etc.) is something that will immensely improve your profile. So if the company you have an offer from is good and famous, take that job! And after 2-3 years in consulting, then you can figure out the next step.
