关于第三部分就业实习情况中的数据,是我目前看到最乐观的,但有两个疑 ...
This is Nicola Daniel from the Finance Department in the University of Maryland. I would like to respond to some of the questions that have been raised in this post, and to welcome students to contact me directly with any further questions.
Let me start on the optimistic note that no matter what university you decide to attend in the US, you will have the great experience of being in a new country, meeting lots of new friends, and of deepening your knowledge in a way that you could not do if you stay at home in China.
Nevertheless, it is important to understand the reality on the ground in the US. According to a study by Open Doors, in 2013/14 more than 886,000 international students studied in the US. By contrast, the US government issues only 65,000 H1B visas every year. Therefore, it is only logical that most students would likely return to their home after graduation and/or OPT year. Please see the link below for the most recent study.

The 95% job placement statistics we posted are based on the survey conducted by the Finance Department in the fall of 2014. The results are based on a 36% response rate, which is considered a high response rate. While this is not a large group, we can only report the actual information that we captured.
The survey also inquired about job satisfaction. Over 80% of students reported better than moderate job happiness. That is, they were not seeking other positions. About 18% of those employed reported that they were still seeking other positions, presumably because they either were not happy, or they did not get paid enough. These numbers include both students who stayed in the US and those who returned to China.
Finally, to the question of international students, it is true that the vast majority of our MFin students come from China. However, at the Smith School, you also share the building with 3,000 American undergraduates, and 200 MBAs students. There are plenty of opportunities to mix with American students, and we hope that you will actively seek out these opportunities.
I will look forward to seeing many of you in College Park in the fall. For further questions, please email: ndaniel@rhsmith.umd.edu. Wishing all the students in China the very best!
