商学院PHD读完了，很难留在美国？

手里有个商学院的OFFER，问那边的同学，说将来不太容易找到工作，很难留下来。相对来说，ECE的PHD就比较容易找到工作了。（无论是留校还是去INDUSTRY）

想问一问在那边的大侠，真是这种情况吗？读商学院PHD的大侠吗？难道毕业就回国了吗?

no.  It is easy to get a job after getting a Ph.D. in Businessschool even the reputation of the school is not good.  I knowseveral graduates get faculty position in U.S..

It is really difficult to get a faculty position in a top-notch business school, but it should be very hard to get in a teaching-oriented college, including community college. So, all depend on your expectation, but it is not worth the effort just to teach in a community college. The life of PhD student is really different, so be prepared for hard working and lots of pressure.

What is ECE?

My professor said: you have to be the best student in toppest B-school to get faculty position in top schools.

If you are the median student from top B-school, you can only get into ordinary schools.

btw, starting salary for faculty in B-school, even in ordinary school, is $80,000-120,000

apple01, 你是想说but it should be very easy to get in a teaching-oriented college, including community college. 吧。

楼主，如果你拿到的是mis的offer，我想mis在商学院的前景不是很好，拿到faculty的position是可以，但是不像商学院其他专业那么容易。传统的商学院专业还是比较容易找到教职的，近年来accounting, finance更为火爆一些。

拿的是MIS的OFFER。学校一般般，呵呵。所以现在比较困惑，到底是去学ECE还是去学MIS。。。

我的观点接近楼上大侠,MIS有点象商学院的数学系,在商学院里不算是很好的专业,就业的方向基本上是到大学里做FACULTY.我不是说做FACULTY不好,其实FINANCE的PHD毕业找工作首选FACTULTY,尽管他们要到华尔街找份工作很容易,可以看出做FACULTY还是不错的.就是说当你只有选择做FACULTY时,就业机会就会相对少,尤其在你碰上不好的年景.找FACULTY的工作也有好年景和差年景.

能被不错的商学院MIS录取还是很不容易的,商学院PHD的录取可不是MASTER录取同日而语的.说到就业,去年找FACULTY的JOB MARKET行情不好,我老公他们学校MIS的一个很出色的毕业生没找到POSITION,但她今年拿到了INDIANA 大学的OFFER,很不错的学校.所以我的意思是如果你在读PHD其间RESERCH做的不错,基本上最后还是能找到较理想的工作,也许中间经历一些周折. 如果你是女生的话,找FACULTY工作时会有优势,刚好与国内相反.

在不错的商学院拿到PHD后,我想考虑的不是能不能留在美国,因为这不难做到,而是你能不能实现自己理想的定位,譬如说拿到好学校TENURE TRACK 的POSITION.这才是不容易的.TOP20商学院的毕业生找工作定位在50--80左右的学校.50以后学校的毕业生基本上考虑去TEACHING UNIVERSITY,RESEARCH UNIVERSITY就很难了.当然也因人而异.

一般商学院的PHD毕业后是在一个level上流动的。如果你的能力低于这个level的找工作能力，估计还没毕业就给踢走了。当然，例外总是存在的。

商学院的OM/MIS就是整个应用数学系。

Yes, Waler88, I meant "easy". Sorry. I was told by one PhD Program Director that only 25% of the graduates from the top 30 schools actually got in a comparable school historically. The other 75%, you can imagine. Without paper, preferably published paper in top journals, do not even think about getting a position in a top school. English is very important. Our school is interviewing faculty (finance) now. One guy from Indiana was emliminated just because of his heavy accent. We could not understand him although he seemed very fluent. You can go either industry or academia for finance major, but competition is high in academia. More demand for accounting now, but 50% is chinese now, so we are competing with our own people actually. MIS was hot a few years ago, and the salary was high back then, but it went down with the cs industry. If you are not sure whether you really want to do research, think it through before you apply. The PhD life here is very very different.
