LZ是最近开始看Mahanttan SC部分的(觉得非常系统很好 十分推荐),同时深深的感觉全英文的看起来比中文的解释更直观,因为之前学习的语法的名词和定义都是前人对于英语的翻译,难免存在偏差和生涩,比如,非限定性、限定性的问题看似很头疼,但看到英语的定义essential ,non-essential就非常容易理解。但可能也因为英语版本的关系,看书的过程中就碰到一个疑问,如下:
P57 Parallelism里写道:“The surbordinators do not have to be identical."
书中还特别给出了正确的例句: there are many people WHO speak English BUT WHOSE parents do not. 因为当时认为这里会是MR.G的tricky出题点所以特意画了重点
说时迟那时快,LZ还没消化完“平行”又在“Modifier"这章被各种限定从句的relative pronoun轮番洗礼,渐入佳境之时在P93 的第五题又出现了错误
题目是:Mary buys cookies made with SugarFree,an artificial sweetener,which tastes as sweet as the corn syrup that her brother loves but where there are fewer calories than in an equivalent amount of corn syrup.
重点在于划线部分,LZ做的时候显然对BUT引导的这种并列关系投以了高度重视,而看到where 第一反应是把它改成in which 所以LZ改正后的句子是:
SugarFREE,an aritificial sweetener,which tastes as .... but in which there are fewer calories than in an ....
自认为符合平行结构,并且将主语SugarFREE代入第二个句子也make sense.
翻到P97的答案,也提到要注意平行的问题,可令人费解的是,还特意说了一句 when relative clauses are parallel,they should start with the same relative pronoun.
于是Correction:SugerFree,an artificial sweetener,which tastes as ....but which contains fewer calories than in ...
那么问题来了,是我的那种改法也是对的呢? 还是 surbordinator和relative clause是有很大区别,那么区别是什么呢? 还是 who whose算作same relative pronoun? |
