Wharton does background checks on all the admits (after they send out the offers). Every admit will have the chance to provide/modify the contact information of his/her companies and pay $75 for the check.
I heard that the background check started after they dismissed a 2nd year student in 2002. They discovered that she misrepresented her job title/responsibilities in her application.

But i believe it is difficult for them to uncover the lies. how can they find the truth if an university or employer 'collaborates' with applicants? Of course, for most top universities and MNC, there is no leeway to play any trick.
