| 我又回来了T T People care more about public recognition than about money. Even if no more money is given, public recognition can still make people work harder.

Everyone is a member of this society. It is clear that public recognition can bring human more achievement than wealth does. Hence I hold my stance that compared to money, public recognition is more valuable for human.

Initially, fortune can only make people satisfied with their material life, but public recognition serves as a source of human’s mental happiness. In academic field, scientists always own the ability to earn more money, while actually they never take luxury life as their pursuit since they desire to achieve more public recognition from others. For instance, Yitang Zhang, a mathematician recruited as an ordinary tutor, devoted his life to accomplishing the proof of a hypothesis in number theory. He worked in a small office with low salary, which can solely support his basic requirements of living. However, he persevered in his research because of his aspiration for more public recognition for the value of his work. When he completed his proof of a profound theory, he said that he was grateful to have received so much recognition from the public, and his dedication to the research was worthwhile.

It is self-evident that public recognition also give us more exposure to this society, and others have more opportunities to observe our behavior. Thus public recognition has become the driving force of our work. Take the mayor of my hometown for example. It is commonsensical that in China, politicians’ salary has rare chance to be promoted. However, the mayor still spare no effort to working to build a more colorful city that will become a more comfortable living environment. People have put a lot of significance on his work, and keep hoping he could fulfill his blueprint, so it is his responsibility to work harder in order to bring more well-being to his loyal supporters. If he abandons himself or goes to seek more opportunities for acquiring fortune, he will absolutely lose citizens’ trust and his authority will be diminished in my hometown.
Admittedly, for those who even does not have enough deposit to earn their living, attaching more concentration to making more money is certainly primary target. In developing countries such as China and India, there are still a lot of people who can’t afford food and water. Public recognition can hardly affect their life, and in contrast, money is more important than recognition to ameliorate their poor living condition. Thus working hard for surviving is prerequisite for their further pursuit for public recognition.

As it stands, for one perspective, public recognition has the power to bring mental delightfulness to us, for another, public recognition may have more people watch our work and make comments, which can exert pressure on our action. Therefore, we can safely draw the conclusion in most cases, public recognition much outweighs wealth in making people work harder.
