个人觉得:逗号加ving结构一、做伴随(ving和主句谓语同时发生)或者结果(主句导致ving),这两种中,ving和主句肯定有关系的,二此道题目,在XX时间,XX信被写了和信的数量超过其他信的数量有毛关系,如果说,谁谁天天写信,导致了信的数量大增。
二、作定语结构,可以做主句定语,有一道题说:XXis one of ...,training several generations of actors whose ranks include...大致结构是这样,这里的training修饰的就是主语。 从prep笔迹上:因为主系表结构不能够被伴随,所以ving结构只剩下作定语的功能,又因为主系表结构,那么可以说是ving结构既主语又修饰表语。

对的,曼哈顿是这样的观点,这个观点运用正好可以运用在这道题。不过并不复杂,因为要么修饰谓语,要么修饰主语两种情况,outnumber修饰谓语显然不可以,written in ..period和outnumber显然没有关系,然而主语离outnumber非常远,感觉像是outnumber在修饰written in ..period。所以不clear。这是我的想法,仅供参考~
我记得有一个句子这样说的:because a single tree, depending on its size and XX, is able to V....
这里的depending on就不能理解为修饰主语做主语定语,不然读起来很奇怪:依靠他的尺寸的数干了XX事儿。
是修饰后面的动词的,潜在含义有正因为这样的尺寸,才能干了XX事儿。
但是有的时候,这种格式可以说是修饰主语作定语,一切就看句子语义了。
