TPO1 At universities and colleges, sports andsocial activities are just as important as classes and libraries and should receiveequal financial support.
Nowadays, universities and colleges in china are mindful of education but fail to understand what is realeducation. Even though the government and principles of these tertiary-level education emphasize theimportance of well-rounded education concept, actually they do not put thisidea into practice, but generate a form of test-Oriented education. Chinese studentsare known for high literacy and numeracy, However, are more lacking in physicalfitness and team spirits which generate from sports and social activities. Therefore,I make a strong support to dedicate moremoney to sport and social activities in universities and colleges, andargue that these aspects overweighthe importance of classes and libraries. Granted, those who attenduniversities and colleges mostly aim at furthering their education, attendingmore lectures and acquiring moreknowledge. Students expect a wealth ofdiverse and interesting classes as electives, which would expand their outlook tolarge wide of subject. Moreover, new added books, literature reviews andresearch papers are supposed to be available to students. Clearly, allimproving projects need more financial support. However, considering output andinput ratio ,the output of spending money on classes and libraries will notexceed the output of spending same amount of money on sports and socialactivities, since majority of universities and colleges in china already have alarge wide of classes to be chosen and libraries have possessed sufficient books. Despite that, physical body exercise tends to be more important than knowledge accquirement in ourcountry today, especially for undergraduates. Since the college entrance examination has been recovered in 1977, this test has been long considered the only gateway to shake off poverty , to skip into middle or high level class and to besuccessful. These thoughts lead many people exaggerate the importance of knowledgegained from books, but ignore the importance of body exercise. According to asurvey from Health and Nutrition Organization, it points out that the healthcondition index of undergraduate students decreases tenfold the index in thelast 20 years. Thus, investing more money to build more sports areas such as gymand tennis court, and to prompt students to take part in regular bodyexercise is more important than increasing the books in the libraries. Furthermore, adding social activities to improve the students' abilityto work with people is critical in education. More and more people have higher education qualifications. Ironically, they lack thebasic ability to talk with people efficiently. Books and classes that may tell students how to work with people are not directly helpful, yetsocial activities are. Such social activitiesas as organizing a professional lecture develop students many flexible skills. Students draw on communication skills from contacting with the speaker such as their professor, learn persuasion from establishing convincing argument of why the professor should attend their lecture, and comprehend team spirit from making a discussion with team members. All the process could improve students ability towork with people , to talk with people. These skills are not the things studentscan learn only from several books or classes. Therefore, social activities are an area that the government shouldsupport more fund. For these reasons, nothing is more important than sports and activitiesat universities and colleges in China. If government are supposed to offer fund to support education, spending more money on sports and social activities is more efficient choice.
