--> incorrect. the presence of "because" at the beginning of the first clause means you can't use "this finding" anymore.
from千行，不明白啥意思呀。。。为什么用了because，后头就不能用this finding 了呢？because不是可以连接两个完整的句子吗？
studies have shown that X is 60 percent of Y, a finding that has shocked most observers.
studies have shown that X is 60 percent of Y; this finding has shocked most observers.
这俩为啥就是对的？
求大神解答！

你要把题贴上来，这些话显然是有前后文大背景的，光这些片段来看都挺对的。

前后其实没啥联系。。。
我想问第一句话，为什么用了because，后头就不能用this finding 了呢？because不是可以连接两个完整的句子吗？

从你贴的这些片段来看，后面当然可以用this finding，这个毋庸置疑。

不根据整个题目的前后句意、背景来判断，而死磕教条语法，是没法搞清楚题目的。

B：正确
C：后半句无谓语，错
D：this单独使用，来指代前面说过的内容，在GMAT中这是不允许的。应该换成it来指代new marine code，错
E：后半句无谓语，错

在GMAT中，this+noun的用法是正确的，但单独用this做指代通常都是不好的（亦有例外情况），应根据具体情况使用it/they/one/ones/that/those来做指代。

这个题目和你问的问题完全无关。

because是连词，连接两个完整的句子没错。这个this finding错误不在于这个语法点。
because studies have shown that X is 60 percent of Y, this finding has shocked most observers.

this finding本来在句子1：*studies have shown that X is 60 percent of Y; this finding has shocked most observers.*这个句子中作一个同位语？（或者之类的结构名字都无所谓了）关键是，this finding在有because了之后，不可以指代前方一整个句子了。然而，在句子一中，它是指代分号前面一整句的。

这是一个meaning的问题，不涉及语法。你可以尝试翻译
studies have shown that X is 60 percent of Y; this finding has shocked most observers.（对）
一个研究显示x是60%的y；此发现使得观察者震惊。
because studies have shown that X is 60 percent of Y, this finding has shocked most observers.（错）
因为一个研究显示x是y的60%，此发现使得观察者震惊。（要因果没因果，不要因果关系呢，*此发现*又不知道是指个什么）

中文里面不也应该是*因为一个研究显示x是y的60%，观察者很震惊。*吗？

1.后半句若是指逗号后半句，没有谓语不是正常的么？（求教）
2.C应该错在暗示了 主句主语tiny islets stimulate了xxx（一个岛怎么能激发xxx？应该是关于岛的一个规定激发了xxx）
