我的分析：
A it指代pulsar，不能被announced；过去完成时错误
B 人不能被announced
C dicovery被observed错误； 时态错误
E pulsar被announced意思不通畅

正确答案是D，我选了E，自己分析后感觉此题主要突破点在读懂语义，不知道我的理解对不对？

我觉得主要是逻辑意思上的问题，不是语法的问题。
你想想如果smallpox和 asmeasles and yaws没有关联性，用来eradicate smallpox的成功经验怎么应用于the other infections？
而C的意思就是smallpox和asmeasles and yaws是同一种类的infection，用such infection表明了他们的关联性，那么把成功的经验“移植”到such infection as measles and yaws也就更符合逻辑了。

2.C选项中的something 后面可以省略that吗？
可以。something在修饰它的定语从句中做宾语，that可以省略。they had not previously considered something possible.

3.E中the possibility of what，这种用法对吗？
不对。直接用the possibility they had not previously considered就好了，但是逻辑意思完全改变了。

A it指代pulsar，不能被announced；过去完成时错误
作者的意思是想用it指代前面的半句话的内容或者是这个discovery，但it不可以这么用，就错了。过去完成时倒没错：有过去的时间点，而且谓语动词announce也可以表示持续的意思。

B 人不能被announced

C dicovery被observed错误； 时态错误
用了before February, 1968就只能用一般过去时了，不能用完成时。

E pulsar被announced意思不通畅
