M7 should be perfectly doable.

I also came from TMT so glad to see someone is looking into the industry.  No offence to Yale SOM, but Stanford GSB and Yale SOM ( Just to be fair, this also applies to my alma mater Cornell Johnson) are not in the same tier in terms of history, influence, endowment, and alumni network.  One of the biggest myths that I see when internationals look into US MBAs is that they look at the university undergraduate ranking.

The fact is that in US universities professional schools are almost like self-governing entities.  While there are affiliation with the parent universities, the schools are responsible to run their own organizations.  This means they need to manage their own students and attract their own employer recruiters.  Parent universities do help with the halo effect, but that is pretty much it.

If you want to do high tech then you can apply to Stanford GSB, Haas, Anderson, Tepper since they are all very strong in tech.  Again, I encourage you to explore the MBA programs more than the parent universities.

@reachkevinwang thanks for sharing the info mate. I will do my homework about the program.
For TMT, i see most of recruiters keen on candidates from High tech firms rather than academic B-school.
Does an US MBA help to get into a top tier TMT investment VC/PE in US?

VC/PE is VERY difficult to crack into, even for US MBA candidates.  I hope you can adjust your expectations.  Also these firms are smaller in scale so they rarely sponsor H1B.

One way to go is to get into a high tech firm's Corporate Development group, then go from there.  But it is very hard to plan ahead this early.

with your background, you can get into M7 fairly easy, since you have international work experience, and can get into the 2 highest compensated careers fairly easy--management consulting and i-banking
while you need an M3 MBA to get into PE/VC
then you'll need a higher GMAT for better chance

Meanwhile, Internet start-up has no relevance with investment
they are two different solar systems
AO may perceive your self-awareness is not sufficient yet when projecting these two different career paths
so key is to clarify what exact career you want to develop
it has to correlate back to your enthusiasm and personality, so as to project a convincing career for real

on the other hand, AO might be curious why you switched from consulting to banking career
need some explanation for that to avoid confusion

Thanks for reply. when you mention M3, do you actually mean HBS WBS and MBS?
As far as i know, the typical careers for graduates from these 3 are not PE/VC, mainly in Consulting and IB, which i am already in.
In terms of the switch between start-up and investment, i would mention my real experience. i had a failed IT start-up experience and i concluded the major failure due to lack of  investment or say financing to expand.
thats why i got into capital market literally to know the whole process about capital and along with that, i believe many start-up may face similar situation. thats why i want to choose to do VC or PE to offer a help and look for potentials, focusing in TMT industry.
Dont know if this will be accepted by AO as a reasonable career goal.

M3 refers to HBS, Stanford GSB, and Wharton
and you're absolutely right, actually most top 10 MBA graduates went into consulting and IB
while don't look at it backward
IT'S BECAUSE PE/VC vacancies are far fewer than IB and consulting ones
so simply M3 ALONE will instantly fill out those vacancies
thus, if you want to get into PE/VC, you need to aim for M3

to achieve this application goal, mentioning your failure experience is a must
while according to experience, that's far from enough
AO will certainly buy-in your aspiration for sure, since it's really convincing for the bottom of your heart
however, since every year there are thousands of applicants who have similar start-up failure experiences
and they are your competition in this application game
you'll need some much more solid candidacy to "dazzle" AO
something like "entering PE/VC on your own BEFORE MBA", which is fairly actionable given your competitive backgrounds, network, and resources
for the reality check, you can see the resume books of M3 (easy to find on CD), and you'll find a big chunk of M3 students had PE/VC experiences BEFORE they entered M3
and I personally dealt with multiple cases who entered PE, before/during/after MBA
either in Greater China market or in the U. S.
and you'll find it not that hard to achieve, especially amongst the surging emerging market

In the application game, schools expect "things happen for themselves"
while there are always competent candidates made it before admitted,
and so can you!
Don't give AO any excuse to issue a ding
