Of course it's possible to go for an MBA with your background! People go to MBAs from every background, and actually LOTS come from programming backgrounds and without managing experience. So, keep those hopes up!
And the first thing you need to do is what you are doing already - prepare as best you can for the GMAT and the TOEFL and get the best scores possible, because they will help you at this point more than anything else.
If you are applying this year, then you should concentrate all those energies on those tests. If you are thinking about next year, then you can take it a bit easier and spend also energies on more volunteer work and extra curriculars to make your profile more diverse.
