关于英语倍数的疑问

小弟求问一个问题，没有想怎么明白。。。
Manhattan上这样说
Right: The man is FIVE TIMES AS OLD AS his grandson.
Wrong: The man is FIVE TIMES OLDER THAN his grandson.
The first sentence means that the man's age = 5 x his grandson's age. In the second example, the author is technically saying that the man is six times as old as his grandson.

但是我看到其他的语法书说上面两个句子应该都是五倍啊？
那不就是 This box is 3 times bigger than that one.  不是三倍关系 好诡异啊。
还有
increase to 5 times和 increase by 5 times 是不是一样的变化啊？谢谢咯~~

我在accounting考试的时候问过老师increase by的具体意思。就是costs increase by 1 dollar。意思就是在原来的成本上增加了一块钱。原来如果是5块钱，现在就是6块钱。而increase to感觉是直接增加到一个什么样的价格吧。比如说increase to 6 dollars，就是现在的价格是6块钱了。
