From the faculty
1.Class Profile,
Average GPA 3.7, Average GMAT 715.
From interview
Prof Ohad Kadan
2. Olin方面的MSF degree
答案是NO。。
Thanks for your message. We hope you’ll choose to join us for the Global Master of Finance dual degree program beginning at Olin Business School this summer. At this point, we don’t know the specific answers to some of your questions as they regard the cohort that will enter the program this summer, because we are still waiting to hear from many students who have been offered admission as to whether they will join us. I can be more specific about the cohort that enrolled in Summer 2013. In that group, the average undergraduate GPA was approximately 3.7. The average GMAT was 715. The number of students in the cohort was 22.
Most of the students are non-US Citizens, and most are from China. That’s not surprising, given that a very high percentage of all applicants to this program are Chinese. Interestingly, however, a very high percentage of the students had already studied outside of their home countries, in the US, Canada, the UK and several European countries. Thus, the students bring a very wide range of personal experiences into the program, even if they share a common nationality. Approximately 60% of the students in the first cohort are women.
As mentioned above, it’s too early to know all of these specific details about the next cohort. We do anticipate that the next class in the dual degree program will be larger than the first. Both we and our partner school in Singapore easily can accommodate a larger number of students; and we have added a second dual degree partner school, Yonsei University in South Korea. Although most of the students in our next cohort will be going from Olin to SMU, some will be going from Olin to Yonsei. The students will be together for their work at Olin in the two summers in the US. Most of the students again will come originally from China; but, as with the first cohort, we are seeing already a large fraction of the group who will have studied outside of their home country during their undergraduate studies. The program continues to be very popular with female students, so that at this point I would anticipate that more women than men will enroll. Again, it’s just too soon to know all of these statistics precisely.

Thanks for your message. I’ll do my best to answer your questions. I am copying several of my colleagues here at Olin, so that they can see the sorts of concerns that you and others have about the numbers of students who may be enrolling in our dual degree program. I am not aware of the plans you describe at Johns Hopkins University, though I do know that some schools in the US have programs much larger than ours at Olin.
At the present time, we do not know how many students will enroll in our second cohort of the dual degree program this coming summer. As I mentioned before, we enrolled 22 students in our first class in Summer 2013, the group that now is in Singapore. Both we and Singapore Management University would like to enroll a larger number of dual degree students over the course of time. We are confident of being able to do an excellent job of serving a cohort of 40-50 students; but we cannot tell at this moment how close to that number the next cohort may be. This is because a number of students – like yourself – are holding offers of admission and will be making their enrollment decisions in the coming weeks.
As I mentioned in my previous note, we have added a second dual degree partnership this year, with Yonsei University in South Korea. As a result, we will have some students from this coming summer’s dual degree cohort going from Olin to South Korea, rather than from Olin to Singapore. These students will be together during their summer studies at Olin. This adds a bit to the uncertainty over exactly how large our next cohort will be. We anticipate that it will be larger than last summer’s number of 22 students, but will not know how much larger for another several weeks. I cannot imagine that class being larger than the 40-50 target number that I mention in the previous paragraph. Compared with what you told me about the hoped-for enrollment at Johns Hopkins, this still would be a very small class!
You will have access to the Olin School’s Weston Career Center in two ways: one, those students who are able to join us for the month of June, when the Foundations courses in accounting and finance are offered, will be able to participate in some career planning sessions organized by the Weston Career Center; two, Olin has hired a person to work on behalf of our students in Singapore, to help them with job searches there and elsewhere in Asia. This will supplement the support provided by the career center at Singapore Management University.
Please feel completely free to share this information with other admitted students with whom you are in contact. I appreciate having the opportunity to present this information, and appreciate your sharing it with others. We hope we will see you – and some of the students with whom you have communicated – at Olin this summer for the start of this very exciting program. Best regards.
THE END
