Working ExperiencesAssessment A specific and highly likely question is related to yourprior work experience - you will be asked to summarize your work exp. to date. Here's what's important - you need to exercise good judgment in what you arechoosing to share (and what you leave out). You will not have 20 minutes totalk about this - probably only 3-5 minutes so you need to pick the high points and make sure that yourwork transitions, major projects and milestone accomplishments are well laidout. The easiestway to accomplish this is to practice - either a mock interview with a friendor colleague or video mock interview. Very few people can do thisperfectly without practice and you really want to make sure that you arecomfortable with what you are sharing and how you explain it - particularly ifyou work in a highly technical field. If you are using business jargon oracronyms that are not familiar to the interviewer, they may miss theopportunity to understand your true potential as a candidate. A very minor butimportant point before you conduct the interview is to understand how much timeyou have overall so that you can manage that time appropriately. Usually theinterview is somewhere between 30-60 minutes but that is a vast difference interms of how much you would elaborate in your answers. 基本上面试都会问到你之前的工作经验, 所以在面试之前都可以把这段话准备一下。 注意时间控制, 也要讲的比较自然。突出自己优势以及需要读MBA的需求。
Team Spirit Assessment Another typical question is give me an example of a time that you had a challengingexperience working with a team. What role did you take in this situation and how did youmanage the group dynamics to still reach your goals and objectives? Youcan either give an example for school or work but if you have been out ofschool for more than a year, I highly recommend giving an example from work asthis is typically more recent. What's important is to give a high leveloverview of the nature of the team, what inputs contributed to the challengingwork dynamics, how did you identify the root cause and what did you do to fixit? Life always involves people who are difficult to work with - you rarely get to work in teams withjust your friends or people with perfect personalities and we want tounderstand what you do when you are faced with these situations and how youmight react to them if they occur in B-school. 团队合作能力是商学院非常看中的一项能力考评点。 所以在问你和别人工作合作中碰到过什么问题, 其实就是在考察你解决人际问题能力和你的团队合作精神。
Self-Awareness Assessment Another common question that is a little tricky - "whatis the weakest part of your application"? Or even more interesting,"what feedback has your boss given you about development areas"?So... there is not a right or wrong answer to this one, but please keep in mind that this is a combinationof our assessment of your own self-awareness as well as your judgment in terms of what you choose to share. One possibility is to share a weakness or development area that mightbe addressed or improved during B-school (if you have one of those) and talkabout why you are choosing this specific school to help overcome and developthat weakness. Again, if you practice and prepare you will be in a much betterposition to answer this confidently rather than looking blankly at theinterviewer with a panicked look on your face! 让你评价自己的弱点其实是考察你自我意识和成熟度的问题。 有时候也会让你聊聊成功的一件事其实也是异曲同工的问题。
What questions do youhave for them-Be prepared! At the end of the interview, the interviewer will usually ask if you have questions for them. The wrong answer is "I have done so much research on yourprogram, I don't have any questions". That is perceived as either lazy ornot insightful. If possible, do a little research about the person interviewing you - are they astudent, alum, professor, admissions officer and ask them opinion basedquestions about their experience/relationship with the school that you wouldnot know the answer to based upon simple web research. One example for astudent or alum - "What was your favorite class at this university andwhy?" or "Tell me about your out-of-the classroom involvement in thestudent community." People love to talk about themselves and this may helpyou to pick up on some things about the school that are special or unique thatyou might not have known just from reading a brochure or browsing the web. 通常面试到最后都会有个环节问你: 你有什么问题需要问面试官? 这个问题非常常规, 在面试之前就应该有所准备。需要问这个问题以表达对学校的兴趣。
Personal Maturity, ProfessionalismAssessment Here's another tricky one - "Give me an example of anethical dilemma (or a time you had poor judgment in decision making). How didyou handle the situation and what did you learn from it?" So, this onegets at a bunch of different issues. First of all, please don't say, I havenever encountered an ethical issue, I can't think of one, or I always have goodjudgment as we all know that is not the case. Again, if you have practiced andreally prepared for the interview, these questions will be ones that you areready to answer. The AdComis looking less at what the issue was, and more about how you responded to it -do you have personal maturity, professionalism, an awareness of the worldaround you and your impact? Hopefully by picking a good example you can gettheir vote of confidence to all of these areas of assessment.
