The answer of this statement depends on your own experience and life style. In my point view, panda is the most important animal in China. Among countless factors that influence the choice, there are three conspicuous aspects as follows.

The main reason for my propensity for panda is that China is the only place where we can find pandas in nature. Pandas are known as the living fossil of the prehistorical animals in the world, so it is very precious and valuable. Moreover, pandas can just live in China, but they don’t adapt anyplace in China except Sichuan Province. It seems pandas become less and less because of their special requirement of the growing environment. This causes they become more and more rare.

Another reason can be seen by every person is that pandas have served as ambassadors to build up the friendship between the Chinese and the peoples of other countries. It can be given a concrete example when China establishes a diplomacy relationship with other countries, it is common that two countries exchange gifts. China usually sends them a panda as a gift to maintain the relationships. Pandas are precious and have an important role to make a closer friendship between two countries.   

Furthermore, pandas are cute, friendly and non-violent animals. As we know, pandas have woolly fur with distinctive black and white markings. They are one class of the vegetarians and just eat bamboos. Many companies use the panda as their logos and the symbol of their products. Both adults and children like pandas, so pandas have a great deal of value in business area.

In a word, pandas are precious, popular and helpful. Taking into account of all these factors, I strongly support that panda is the most important animal in China.
