Hi there, and thanks so much for your question! Let me begin by saying that you have a pretty solid background. Your advantages are your rich international experience and solid GPA and GMAT. As you know, your TOEFL score is less than competitive. However, schools will usually not reject your application simply because you are 2 or 3 points lower on your TOEFL. If you write some excellent essays, I think you’d have a fair chance at getting into UIUC, CWRU,and Syracuse. Let me know if you have any further questions!

I have three other questions:
The first one is whether the secretary or the officer from universities will eliminate some students who don't have qualified toefl score.If that happens,I will not have the chance to let my essays be read.
The second question is that my dream school is Boston College,but I don't konw if I have any chance.
The last question is that in your opinion,whether I need to take another toefl test to have a better score.

Hi there, and thanks for following up with me! Let me answer your first and third questions together. The minimum allowed scores for the TOEFL is different for each school, and the majority of schools require a 79 or 80 minimum to be considered for admission, so you’re above that. However, some competitive programs have a minimum of 100. You can find this information out by looking at the graduate admissions section of a school’s website. Also, a score above 100 definitely helps you become more competitive within the applicant pool, regardless of where you’re applying. If you have the time and energy, I would definitely suggest retaking the test and aiming at a higher score: 105+ would be optimal. To answer your second question, BC actually requires applicants to have full-time work experience, so their program might not be a good option for you right now.

Hey there, and thanks for following up.That’s great news, my friend! As I mentioned before, schools like UIUC, CWRU,and Syracuse will definitely be in your range. You can also consider other programs that have excellent locations in major cities like Fordham, Bentley, and Suffolk. Being centrally located will definitely help your job search later on. At this moment, you should switch your focus exclusively to your essays. Great essays can make a huge difference in creating a successful application. Before you write anything, first consider your career goals and future plans. Then, figure outyour strengths and advantages, and think of stories from your experience that illustrate them.
