4: Take care in presenting your short-term goal.
The way in which you present your short-term goals to the admissionscommittee can greatly influence your outcomes. These days, some top MBA programs ask you to defineyour short-term goal in just one sentence on the application form itself. Theycan easily use this as a “weeder”, therefore funneling out candidates theythink are not being realistic about the sort of job they can secure after theMBA. If a school thinks it will not be successful in placing you in yourdesired job, they have much less incentive to admit you.

For example, a very accomplished andsmart engineer might decide she wants to go into the finance side of herindustry, and therefore indicates that she wants to get a job in the financearena of a different industry immediately upon graduation. The admissionscommittee may believe, based on prior years’ outcomes, that such a candidatewill have a hard time transitioning to finance in a new field, and thereforereject the candidate. I have spoken with many candidates who applied on theirown in the past and were rejected, and then received feedback from their targetMBA program that indicated “the admissions committee did not think you couldmake that transition”.

Do not offer the admissions committee a reason to reject you by givingthem a short-term goal they won’t think you can achieve.
你的短期目标需要现实化,因为学校不希望看到学生毕业后达不成自己原先的目标。所以在录取删选的时候,他们会根据你以前的成绩判断你达到你的短期目标的可能性。

5: Use your long-term goals as a major selling point.
The way in which you present your long-term goals to the admissionscommittee can also greatly influence your outcomes. Use your long-term goalsand distinct wording to set yourself apart and present yourself as a leader, aninnovator, and someone who will be very influential in the future.

Some candidates are not certain whatthey want to do in the long term, but just remember that many times theapplications that seem the strongest are the ones in which the candidate isable to provide a strong sense of where they intend to go in the long term.
长期目标也是个卖点。所以如果能清晰的写出你长期的工作目标就很好!

6: Use your recommendations as a major asset – and workwith your recommendation writers to get the recommendations completed well inadvance of the holidays!
Many candidates are not aware thatrecommendations weigh heavily in the MBA admissions process and can usually beas important as the essays. Great recommendations can help distinguish you througha third-party lens.

Candidates should remember that theycan be rejected from a top MBA program on the basis of one unexceptionalrecommendation alone, particularly if they are a part of a very competitiveprofile, such as an investment banker, a private equity professional, or anengineer.

Just as your essays should draw afavorable picture of your contributing attributes, your recommendations shoulddo the same. Do you perform excellently? Are you truly distinguished in yourabilities relative to your peers? Are you known for your great insights? Whatcan you bring to the school and the MBA program? What does the recommendationwriter think of your future goals? The recommendations should answer these questions and provide acompelling portrait of the student and future businessperson you will be.
