答案B，不知道itself 和it 是否可以指代不同的东西，在这里it应该指代的是sandpiper 吧

it和itself可以指代不同的东西，甚至有的说法说同一个代词相同的格（如句中的2个they）可以指代不同的对象，但是前提是能很清楚地指代这些对象，不至于引起歧义就可以。B中itself紧跟bird，指代很清楚，不会引起任何歧义。

我也认为it指代sandpiper.
