用过去式做名词的修饰语，标点问题

曼哈顿语法 chapter 6 modifiers problem set 中的最后一题
15. The patient's rare disease was treated using novel techniques developed at the medical school.
答案给出的两个正确的修改：
1) The patient's rare disease was treated through the use of techniques developed at the medical school.
or
2) The doctor treated the patient's rare disease by using novel techniques develpoed at the medical school.

"develped at the medical school" 用来修饰前面名词 techniques. 但是在两者中间不用加逗号么？

哈。名词性限定修饰不加逗号的。-Ed，-Ing都可以做限定修饰前面的名词。要逗号的是非限定修饰，特别是-ing前有逗号的大部分做状语。

那就是说这种‘不可分割性质’的noun modifier 是不用加逗号的，但是如果是那种“可有可无性质的”非限定性修饰就需要加逗号~ 可以这样理解么？

2) The doctor treated the patient's rare disease by using novel techniques develpoed at the medical school.

这种情况下by using novel techniques develpoed at the medical school当做了动词修饰么？ 是用来修饰 treated 还是 doctor treated？
