XDJM帮忙提点下，做过都有印象吧？
第一题那个x is to y what a is to b 是固定搭配?
第二题的path为什么要是单数，把主语当作整体看？

I would think that path is correct.

as explained in the OG, the sentence talks about the Neanderthals as a whole where they were making single evolutional change towards the same direction (not diverge into various paths). So path should be in singl. form.
