第一是不够简洁，第二是they的指代在A里会很别扭（尽管不能说是绝对错误）

我这离考完已经一年多了，so that的用法我就不乱说了，也忘了许多了。但是这里A最不好的一点就是按语义来说，they指代的应该是workers。

但是从语法和句子结构上看，workers暗含在needed by workers这个介宾短语的宾语上，并不是句子主要成分。所以这个指代很别扭。

而且用so that句型会很啰嗦，不如D直接。

谢谢，你解释的合理。但能否能这样理解。need 的被动语态只能是need to be done. A中hours needed by workers 这种表达need相当于错误表达了被动语态呢？

你把A带进去翻译中文  你看看通么  什么叫减少了工人们需要的时间 so that他们就能生产一吨钢了  不REDUCE都不能产生了么？

我觉得你的想法还是有些不对。因为这道题正确答案D里用到的也只是need to do sth.这个结构，而不是被动结构。

其实句子说成new equipment reduced the amount of time needed by workers to produce a ton of steel.也没有大的语法错误。因为加粗部分的主干部分是needed to produce...， by workers只是needed的一个动作施加者，而不是整个短语的必要结构。
