(A) due to moisture exhaled by tourists, which raised its humidity to such levels so that salt from the stone was crystallizing (B) due to moisture that tourists had exhaled, thereby raising its humidity to such levels that salt from the stone would crystallize (C) because tourists were exhaling moisture, which had raised the humidity within them to levels such that salt from the stone would crystallize (D) because of moisture that was exhaled by tourists raising the humidity within them to levels so high as to make the salt from the stone crystallize (E) because moisture exhaled by tourists had raised the humidity within them to such levels that salt from the stone was crystallizing 这题正选为e， 窝有以下两点搞不太清：      1. 对于e选项， og解释是：them clearly refers to chambers. 窝觉得无法理解，为什么them不能指代tourists呢？ 窝有个猜想：在没有被任何标点符号分开得一个句子，里面出现的代词是不可能指代那个主语的，只有可能解释别的名词。因为tourists和them是在一个句子里的，所以them不能指代tourists。不知道窝这想法可否正确？      2. e选项里的them如果不能指代tourists，那它为什么不能指代visitors呢？ 而一定是指代chambers呢？

关于代词指代模糊问题，从来就没有一个定论；
我初学GMAT语法时，也很认真地钻研Manhattan关于指代模糊的知识点，套用在OG每一句有代词的题目中，但没多久我就发现，太多的特例，太多的悖论。
总之--错误的选项肯定不只有指代模糊一个错；不到迫不得已，不要考虑指代模糊。

代词的考点有很多，模糊只是其中一个；我相信如果把代词其他考点掌握牢固了，就没问题
比如代词不能指代前面的所有格、代词不能指代用作形容词的名词、代词单复数问题等等

回到这道题，ABCD都有很多明显的错误，不要纠结指代模糊了

恩窝也觉得这个指代问题实在是太太太令人恼火了！老是策不清。。 还想问一下，窝看到有人在讨论 如果句子里有A of B, 那么A与B中的任何一个都不能被介词指代是吗？

【A 介词 B】的结构后面跟代词，代词可以指代：[A] 或 [B] 或 [A 介词B]

指代 [A 介词B]的例子：OG13-77题 that指代蓝色部分
A 1972 agreement between Canada and the United States reduced the amount of phosphates that municipalities are allowed to dump into the Great Lakes.

指代[A]的例子：OG13-105题 that指代tool
Marconi conceived of the radio as a tool for private conversation that could substitute for the telephone; instead, it has become precisely the opposite, a tool for communicating with a large, public audience.

指代[B]的例子 OG13-30题 that指代path，虽然前面有介词along
Paleontologists believe that fragments of a primate jawbone unearthed in Burma and estimated to be 40 to 44 million years old provide evidence of a crucial step along the evolutionary path that led to human being.


总之，只要是名词成分，代词就可以指代，不要考虑那么多。A 介词 B 这个结构，A和B都是名词成分
而像所有格和做形容词的名词，就不能指代了；

不知道你是否知道形容词性名词，如park rangers ,park在这里就不能被it指代
