Like meanssimilarto or in a manner similar to. A prepositionalphrase with like can modify a noun or a verb, creatinga comparison. Only Nouns or Pronouns can follow like.

1. as作为连词
Conjunction Asappears with a Clause. It has threeuses: - · Duration As: AS I strolled to the store, I smelled the air. (=while, during)
- · Causation As: I will not tell you, AS you already know. (=since, because)
- · Comparison As: You should walk AS she wants you to. (= in thesame way)
Comparison As isthe most important Conjunction use of as on the GMAT. It sometimes appearstogether with just,so, or even so too. - · JUST AS the trains were late yesterday, thebuses are late today.

Comparison As canalso appear with a phrase, rather than a full Clause. - · AS in the previous case, the judge took an earlybreak.

In any ofthese prepositional senses, As does not mean “similar to.” - · I will jump up LIKE a clown. (= in a clownishmanner)

To forcethe Comparison As meaning, use a clause (include a verb). - · I will jump up AS a clown MIGHT. (= like ahypothetical clown)
- · I will jump up AS clowns DO. (= like actualclowns)
The structure as...as...creates a comparison. The first as is followed by an Adjectiveor Adverb. The second as is followed by a Noun, a phrase, or a whole Clause. - · They are AS hungry AS you.
