To every student, studying methods are very important, which can make students grasp many knowledge in a limited period as quickly as possible. Some students are favored to study alone, and the other side of the students is quite the opposite. They insist on studying with a group of students. Perhaps there is an element of true in both these students.
It is very obvious that students could acquire at least three benefits from studying alone. For one thing, it would make students easily concentrate on their subjects without the distractions from other persons. For another thing, studying alone can help students not only cultivate their capability to solve academic problems but enhance their independence as well when they have adequate reference books. Finally, with their focus on subjects and the self-dependence, students will make themselves have more and more competitive. But this can give rise to curious situation that the ability to cooperate can not get improved.
On the other side, studying with a group of students can make students tackle on some problems which are too difficult to be dissolved on one’s own. From this way, members offer different perspectives, leading to innovation and creativity, and share their unique spiritual, intellectual and material resources, which can save much time and energy. Furthermore, studying with a group can benefit to set up students’ sense of cooperation which can stimulate one’s enthusiasm about learning in turn. What is also worth noticing is that studying with a group can not develop the skill of settling problems in person.
In conclusion, studying alone or studying with a group has both merits and demerits. I agree that different situations should make choices different. In some situations, which demand excellent personal skills, such as practicing piano, painting in oil, and Chinese water color, studying alone is the best way. However, in other situations, especially doing physical experiments, practicing spoken skills of a foreign language, students should create many opportunities to study with a group, therefore learn more effectively. |
