Hi there! I’m happy to weigh in on this situation. Personally, I’d recommend Columbia. Since you plan to go back to China after graduation, the reputation of your school is extremely important. Of course Columbia has a first-rate reputation worldwide. In addition, Columbia’s strong international alumni network will be very helpful to you in the future. To be honest, TC is a very good school and is well connected in the industry. However, the reality is that it will be hard for you to transfer to other majors. So don’t plan on doing this if you ultimately choose to go to Columbia, since it’s often too difficult to switch majors. Hope this helps!

I was wondering that are you sure that columbia's reputation in china is good? I am terribly worried about its reputation because it enrolled too many students compared with others. I am afraid that reputation couldnot compete with other top10 or 20 universities.

I’m happy to answer a follow-up!What’s great about TC is that it uses the same career services system as the others schools within Columbia, which is a huge benefit. Since your major is Economics and Education, you’ll be looking for jobs in the economic departments of banks, investment firms, or research companies. On the other hand, if you want to pursue an academic career path, you can also further your study with a PhD degree and apply for jobs at universities. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Your concern is reasonable, but this is true about every school these days. There are more and more international students applying and enrollingin American schools, but that’s not how you value a school and decide whether it’s worth going to or not. Columbia is still one of the best schools in the States with a top education and alumni network. There really is no comparison between Columbia and Fordham, especially in the perception of people around the world. Ten out of ten people will say that Columbia is the superior university. Imagine you are a hiring manager, and two candidates present themselves, one from Fordham and one from Columbia. Who would you give the interview to? Both people in the U.S. and China would agree: Columbia is the way to go. Hope this helps!

Hey, Frank. Do you come from Admissioando? I have gotten some useful information from Admissioando. Thank you so much! You said I could look for jobs in commercial banks, investment firms, or research companies. But I searched the CVs of the graduates from Economics and Education on LinkedIn and did not find everyone who go into the business area and get H1B visa.  Why did you say that graduates from TC can directly go into business area. Looking forward to your reply!

Hi there! Yes, I am the co-founder of Admissionado. I’m so glad to hear that we provided you with useful information! To address your concern here, I’ve emphasized many times that there is no single program or school that can guarantee getting a job oran H1B visa. If I remember correctly, you’re planning on returning to China after graduation. This is an important distinction because different career plans require different support and resources. The discussion we had was based largely on your career plan. In terms of going into business, your major is both Econ and Business related. In addition, you will have full access to Columbia’s career services, some of the best in the world. The door to the business world is definitely wide open. However, just like if you were to study finance at Wharton, no one can guarantee you’ll get a great job that you love. Absolute certainty and security just don’t exist in today’s ever-changing job market. When it comes to school selection, it’s all about your future career plan and which school will give you the most resources and support in achieving your goals. Thanks!
