Both the readingand listening passages deal with the same topic: the influence of the zebramussel immigration from eastern Europe to north America. The main idea of thereading passage is that the immigration of the zebra mussel has causedevastation to the native eco-environment, whereas the speaker argues againstthe points presented by the reading passage.
First of all, thewriter claims that this unstoppable creature is shipped by human transportation. However, the professor opposes the writer’s argument, based on the assertionthat it is completely impossible for this thing to happen. He holds the opinionthat it is a natural process for the zebra mussel to travel across the oceanowing to the balance of water salinity. For example, the zebra mussel, thefresh water fish, will be no doubt to die when stepping into the salty waterarea.
Secondly, asmentioned in the reading passage, the zebra mussel immediately domain the newhabitat and no other creatures can compete with it. However, the lecturermaintains that it is just a short-time situation. There should be other factorsthat may threaten the living of the zebra mussel. For instance, the birdsusually eat the zebra mussel a lot.
Lastly, thewriter contends that it is very possible that the zebra mussel causes thedecrease of overall fish population. On the contrary, the professor points outthat although it do have a effect on the slashing numbers of these fishpopulation, some positive influence also exists. Here is a case in point, thedead of upper-water fish provide the bottom-water fish enough nutrition, andthus increase the number of bottom-water fish in the lake river.

Both the readingand listening passages deal with the same topic: whether the clay jars of thevessel is electric batteries or not. The main idea of the reading passage is thatit is nearly impossible for the vessels to be seen as electric batteries inancient times, whereas the speaker argues against the points presented by thereading passage.
Above all, thewriter claims that an indispensable part to form a battery is electricityconductors such as mental wires, but the vessels do not have this wires, so itis hard to think that the vessels is a electric batteries. However, theprofessor opposes the writer’s argument, based on the assertion that it ismaybe a battery but lacks some other materials. For example, the local people don’thave enough knowledge about the things they found, so some important parts ofthe vessels are probably thrown away unconsciously.
Second, asmentioned in the reading passage, the use of copper cylinders inside the jar aremaybe is to hold scrolls of scared text. However, the lecturer maintains thatthe similarity between the two can prove nothing. For instance, it is likelythat the copper cylinder has once used to hold scrolls, but later, it was usedfor another purpose such as generating electricity.
Lastly, thewriter contends that in the past, it is useless for people to use electricity, let alone inventing the device to generate electricity. On the contrary, theprofessor points out that electricity is very useful even in the ancient times. Our ancestors can use it to shock others as an invisible magic power, or thehealing effect is also remarkable for electricity just as we do in modernmedicine.
