I have a MS from US and also have number of years in US biotech company R&D. My questions are: Since Chicgo is famous for Finance, is it an advantage or disadvantage if I want to apply marketing or management concentration? How many companies come to campus to recruit students in these concentrations(not finance), or how many career opportunities are there for students in these areas? How many graduates go to pharmacutical or biotechnology companies to do marketing or strategy? thanks so much! ruiyu25
Hi Ruiyu25,
This is Yanfei. Glad to meet you here. I was scanning through the questions for our "formal" chat on Sunday and saw your message. Since some of them are very specific and easy questions, I just thought I would take a shot at it now. We are still in the middle of Finals week (actually I have a final exam tomorrow morning, , ,), so if I hasn't covered all of your questions now, let's certainly chat some more on Sunday.
Yes, most of the big pharmaceutical/med device companies recruit in Chicago GSB. For example, this year, J&J, Pfizer, Lilly, Wyeth, Abott, Genentech, Medtronic... there are a few more, I just couldn't remember the names on top of my head.
And yes, there are marketing and strategic managment opportunities in these companies. In fact, marketing has always been one of the areas they recruit heavily for. How many graduates to these areas? I am not sure right now, but I will look for some numbers and get back to you, OK?
Let us talk more.
My warm regards,
Yanfei
