pitt alum with big 4 job offer IN pittsburgh right here. i personally know at least 5 who received big 4 full-time offer after pitt msa. FUCK YOU moron if you don't know shit but talk shit about Pittsburgh. I love DC though, a great city that offers plenty of opportunity and diversity. I am not here to claim that Pitt is better than Maryland. All I am saying is Pittsburgh is a great city with great potential.
Now think about this. Pittsburgh big 4 hires less, for sure, than McLean, VA or Washington, DC. Pittsburgh big4s hire about 160-200 new staff (audit, tax, advisory) in total annually, based on my personally experience and knowledge (no guarantee for accuracy), where I think DC big4s hire somewhere around 800-1000 new (audit, tax advisory), annually. Pittsburgh big 4s recruit from Pitt, Penn State (where most graduates go to philly or nyc), WVU, and some other small schools in western pa area (cmu is unfortunately not included because they don't produce accounting majors). In comparison, McLean, VA (just so you know, this is the largest DC metro area business hub, search for this location if you haven't heard) hires from UVA (yahh a great school), BYU (surprise! but it's true), GWU, Virginia Tech, William Mary, American University, University of Delaware, University of Maryland...and 10-20 other schools in the region. All I am trying to say is that your chance is against you WHEREVER you go to school. Make no mistake: DC offers more non-big-4 opportunities than Pittsburgh ever would. It's the fucking capital for god's sake, but then can you get a job in the White House? Be my guest. oh you might as well just change the constitution and run for the president of United States.
DC area is just so full of government-related work. Deloitte seldomly hires international folks in DC area cuz they have the most governmental contract that requires security clearance. Sure, you can apply to NYC or Boston. Good luck...
All I am saying is, wherever you go, you will have strong competition and your chance is not based on the number of openings in local big 4 office. MAKE your decision on where you want to live and study, and opporutnities shall come no mater where you go. Then it's up to you if you can shovel your lazy ass and seize the opportunity. |
