如果承认本句子是比较句子的前提下，比较涉及的是句子的宾语：a vocal tract.

1.我们可以把A改写为：Neanderthals had a vocal tract that resembled that of XXX.    其中，Of  XXX 结构对that 起修饰作用，内容跟Nwanderthals 无关。可是是猴子也可以是小鸟。这是从句形式。我们可以感觉这句子有点别扭吧，两个that.  ETS采用了更好的分词短语修饰Neanderthals had a vocal tract resembling an ape’s

个人认为，ETS是指某一种ape, 例如gollira or a chimpanzee, 但是不是所有的apes have such a vocal tract. So ETS 用了an aple 来泛指某一种ape，而不是泛指所有的apes（the apes）

我认为不能这样改写。因为resembled是过去式，用在这里似乎表示两者的声道过去是相似的，现在不相似了。而题目原意是前者的声道与后者的声道具有相似性这一客观事实。所以只能用现在分词来表示这一属性。这也是现在分词作定语与定语从句的一个重要区别。

我也有同样的疑问。以前以为，同位语应该在主句中有对应的东西。比如这一题当中应该有和shortcoming对应的名词在主句中出现。可是，这一题中，与shortcoming对应的是前面的一整句话。或者说与shortcoming对应的是一个事实：“Neanderthals had a vocal tract resembling an ape's and so were probably without language”.

如果这个解释是对的话，这句话就我打破了我之前认为同位语必须有名词的结构对应的想法。

还原就是Neanderthals had a vocal tract that resembled vocal tracts of the apes  

意思是说Neanderthals的vocal tract与apes的那些vocal tracts相似

这样好像觉得A选项没什么问题

当还时觉得B的ape's的所有格不合适，于是就排除B选了A，结果错了。

看了ＯＧ解释，还是不明白为什么those指代错误
