楼主这样理解的话岂不是和prep的笔记所说的相反？?因为笔记里面还是说depending on its size...是作状语，往后修饰动词is able to；但楼主的意思是be动词不能“被伴随”，因此depending on...应该是往前修饰single tree.
唔……感觉都很有道理?不过无论怎么理解这句话都是只修饰一个成分，所以不存在歧义?

选项：Minivans, carrying as many as seven passengers, compared with most sport utility vehicles, cost less,
RON:the modifier "...carrying..." seems to signify that the latter traits are only true of minivans when those minivans are actually carrying the requisite number of passengers. if they aren't, then all of a sudden those things aren't true anymore.
