In today’s world, it is more important to work quickly and risk making mistakes than to work slowly and make sure that everything in correct. (追求速度还是小心谨慎?)
In contemporary society, speed and efficiency are considered as priority in people’s daily life. Everyone is seeking the fastest and shortest way to complete tasks. However, different people hold divergent opinions on this matter. As far as I am concerned, working slowly and making sure that everything is correct has more advantages than working quickly and risking making mistakes.
Admittedly, speed is a key aspect in many projects and there is an old saying that “time is money”. Therefore, in terms of this factor, complete tasks with high speed is likely to be a shortcut for the time and money saving. However, the real situation is not always like that. Actually, on the one hand, the benefits obtain from high speed could be counteracted by the cost of errors. Take the tragedy of lake-crossing bridge fracture in my hometown as example. Building this bridge was a profitable engineering, with high return on investment, while lots of challenging. In order to reduce the labor costs and earn more profits, the investor accelerated construction speed without quality consideration. Of course, the bridge was broken eventually soon. Luckily, no one was hurt in this disaster. For the both the citizens and the investor, the lost will be far higher than the cost saving from the unreasonable high speed construction strategy.
Additionally, working slowly and making sure that everything in correct would bring you more advantages than you think. There are some examples could aptly illustrate this point. In the software industry, it seems like the speed of new software product is critical for a start-up company because it could take the first mover advantage. Nevertheless, this is not the case. Comparing with the fast-made software with many bugs and bad customer experience, the lower speed product with excellent quality will be more welcome by the customers. Secondly, as a college student major in biochemistry, we need to deal with lots of self-design experiments. Some of my classmates always start their experiments running as quickly as possible due to time saving without good preparation and design. So they often make mistakes and couldn’t get accurate data. Instead, the top student, Frank, always finishes his work slowly but more carefully. Right now, he is in medical school, on his way to being a Dr. Frank.
To sum up, from what has been discussed, we can easily draw a conclusion that making everything correct with low speed is more essential than bad inferior quality with high speed. |
