Two PhD Positions in Lead Corrosion and Water Quality Modeling The RESTORE Research Group at Western University is seeking PhD students to work on a Canadian Water Network project that will model and explore lead in water distribution systems. The project will combine laboratoryinvestigations, pipe loop studies and field data with the development of an advanced water quality computer model. The computer model will be designed as decision support tool to enable municipalities to investigate causes of existing elevated lead levels and to design modifications at the water treatment plant that will reduce lead levels at the tap. The project has a strong industrial/municipal partner component and students will interact closely with drinking water operators, municipality officers and engineering consultants. Students will be exposed to state of the art analytical instrumentation facilities available in Ontario and the US and advanced computer modeling programs. Applicant should have experience in either: (a) advanced inorganic chemical analytical techniques, or (b) water quality/geochemical computer modeling. The successful candidates will work in the cutting-edge RESTORE Research Group. RESTORE (http://www.eng.uwo.ca/research/restore/) was recently awarded over $6 M to conduct field, experimental and modelling investigations focused on environmental and water issues. It is a dynamic research group that includes 20 graduate students, 6 postdoctoral fellows and three laboratory technicians.
