If you are passionate about healthcare program, Duke is a good choice. Besides leadership programs offered by the firms mentioned above, there are many other great companies also came to the campus for international students:
1. Zimmer (Medical Device) 2. Baxter (Medical Device) 3. GSK (Pharma) 4. Synthes (Medical Device, acquired by JnJ, not sure about next year) 5. BioGen (BioTechPharma) 6. BD (Medical Device) ...
However, what makes Duke healthcare program exciting and rewarding for me personally comes from two unique aspects:
1. Healthcare boot-camp
a one-week intensive lectures prior to the start of MBA program. You will attend a series of high profile lectures covering the whole healthcare industry including economy, pharma, hospital, insurance, long term care, government and finance. Many executives would be invited to the boot-camp to share experience. Even if you have not experience before, the boot-camp would prepare you quite well for coming interviews of healthcare companies.
2. Week-in-Washington DC
For HSMer (Health Sector Management), Duke will select active members each winter holiday to join week-in-Washington DC trip. Basically, this trip is supposed to help student understand how government and healthcare industry interacts with each other. For my experience, this is a trip really opening my eyes. Our program coordinator is a former congress man and retired governor of Ohio state, who is now helping HSM. During the trip, we visited FDA, NIH, Brookings Institute, Whitehouse and Congress, meeting key leaders from the industry such as Deputy Chief of Staff for Obama (btw, she met us right after meeting with Obama), directors of FDA, PR strategist of presidential campaign, chief economist of national economy council and billionaire entrepreneur in the industry who is now working for the government just for fun. All guys were also invited to the house of the congress man for networking close to the end. The whole trip put many aspects of US complicating healthcare industry under a solid, whole picture for us. The perspectives we saw were diverse and enlightening. As a Chinese, I saw many things beyond just healthcare, but how the government runs where power of industry bargains with power of government. Unforgettable experience to me!
Hopefully, this would give you or other friends interested in Healthcare a different perspective about Duke program. |
