Hi LZ, I am applying for UVA 2013 MSA-Taxation, but got a 630 on gmat just recently. Do you think I should retake it for a higher score? By the way, I graduated from a US state university in the past June and my GPA was 3.86. Major in Accounting and Finance. I currently work in a small public CPA firm and will take the CPA exam in the next 10 months. Thank you in advance. I am so grateful for your sharing! -- by 会员 cd0304 (2012/10/27 4:37:16)
Hello cd0304,
UVa has some of the best professors in the country. Pro. Maloney, for example, wrote Southwestern Federal Taxation textbook. He is THE BEST TAX PROFESSOR you can find on this planet. I can assure you that you have made a wise choice to apply here.
I personally think your GMAT is good enough considering your background. However, it's a competitive program to get in so don't take my word for granted. You should definitely check with an admission officer and Ms. Candelier should provide helpful information.
Standardized test score only tells you so much about the capability of an applicant, and I know McIntire, as a top-ranked professional business school, understands that. Besides, your excellent undergrad GPA already speaks for your academic ability. What the school values most is communication skills. Also, when you communicate with McIntire admission officers, on the phone or via email, do demonstrate your professionalism. I am sure you are familiar with the way accounting firms hire people. To me, McIntire application process was just like public accounting firm interview process, except a lot more laid-back. Your work experience in cpa firm should give you a huge advantage. If your goal is clear-i'd say it is cuz you are applying to the tax track-there's nothing that can stop you from getting into this program. Good luck.
