1,w: Looks like Mary is a shoe in for a major landslide in the upcoming Student Union elections.

M;well, it wouldn'd be because she didn't deserve it.

Q:what does the man mean?

teacher said the answer should be：the man thinks mary does deserve it.

but I don't quite understand and I Choose;The man thinks mary probably won't win

what's your opinion about it? thanks

my answer;ask another person who is working on it.

but the teacher's answer is :check with the prof to explain the question..

still, I am puzzled coz I think"might not be quite so in the dark" means somebody may know it.

one is :she dosen's want to but is afraid of not getting good grades.( according to the teacher,this is the answer)

another is:she has no choice because she must pass the test.

sorry,人在USA，用的是老师给的没有标明具体时间的题，是03某月美国这边paper based的真题，我没有国内的题，不知道这个是不是和国内的一样

赞同你老师的意见，英文中，如果前后都有否定词，记住，只有not是否定词，是表示双重否定的话，一定是肯定的意思。所以你可以理解成 it would be because she deserve it.

这个看得有点晕得说，in the dark 是不知道的意思，所以可能是应该去找prof E了。

这个的话我比较倾向于she has no choice because she must pass the test. 主要是从这个but的语气中猜出来的。W说她不想去，但是又必须去。

GG，偶也有点晕的说，前面有个check around，是让他看看周围的人知不知道，后面someone sitting around might not be quite so in the dark偶认为是说其他人在这坐的可能知道，也就是说可能不会是 in the dark，在让大家看看吧

同意GG的，现在M已经说了it wouldn'd be ，所以答案中 probably won't win就不是很合适，想不起来还是你老师说得好一些
