虽然有人说说gmatprep中过答案是D，但是还是认为last scheduled day有一个意思就是很多预期的日子中间的最后一个，最起码改成 scheduled last day那么就肯定正确了。

结合gmatprep的答案解释一下D：

因为后面句子部分出现they指代workers,根据一句中一个代词指代相同的原则，前面的their也指代workers. last scheduled day可以理解为原来合同的最后一天，也就是终止日期（因为后面提到提前离开的问题）。就是说员工必须等到原合同终止离开公司，才能领到遣散费。这个last scheduled day显然不是指代severance package的。

In D, it says "their" last scheduled day. If their means "packages", it can be replaced by "package's last scheduled day". If their means "workers", it can be replaced by "worker's last scheduled day". Both meanings do not have a good sense.

In E, although "they" are not clear to indicate workers or packages. But logically it can only indicate the packages. It is the best answer we have, although it is not perfect.
