OG12th, SC 30 不定式问题

答案选C没问题。


但是我有两个疑惑:
E项OG的解释“Although the infi nitive to protect would work
if it were not preceded by a comma, it
cannot act as a nonrestrictive adjectival
phrase modifying items.”protecting究竟是作定语的还是做状语的？


我的理解是，正确答案C项protecting是状语，表示主语animal-hide shields是essential items的目的，而E项不定式更像是修饰名词的成分所以不对。

另外看了一下Manhattan，没有看到关于不定式在modifier中扮演的角色问题，Non modifier 和 Verb modifier 项下都没有列举不定式，突然就对不定时的用法产生疑惑了。。。

根据bat大神的讨论，这个protecting是：主系表，ving的情况   作补充说明（也就是adverbial modifier 状语~）
然后我看了manhattan 4，有啊 P90  有讲到不定式做VM的~

是的哎~那E选项的解释是啥子意思呢？

即使在去掉前面逗号的情况下，to protect是对的，它也不能做非限的副词短语修饰前面的名词  
我是这样理解的， equipment to protect XXX  这里的to protect就是manhattan里的verb modifier，不是noun modifier，所以不能修饰equipment，也确实没有protecting好
