1:Ryonosuke Akutagawa's knowledge of the literatures of Europe, China, and Japan was instrumental in his development as a
writer, informing both his literary style and the content of his fiction.
3Ryonosuke Akutagawa's knowledge of the literatures of Europe, China, and Japan was instrumental in his development as a writer, as it informed his literary style as much as the content of his fiction.

显然原文要表达后者意思,但D用informing就把as much as后面的content of fiction的比较对象给弄得有歧义了~这应该是不选D的最主要原因~

Th English version should be: RA's knowledge of the literature of ECJ influenced his development as a writer, because it informed his literary style and the content of his fiction.
