108.Sound can travel through water for enormous distance, prevented from dissipating its acoustic energy as a result of boundaries in the ocean created by water layers of different temperatures and densities.这道题正确答案是:its acoustic energy prevented from dissipating by.
D选项:its acoustic energy prevented from being dissipated as a result of.
OG解释:the version of the sentence is wordy, awkward, and indirect; being dissipated as a result of makes it unclear whether the boundaries contribute to energy loss or prevent it.

。词典里的英译to cause to separate and go in different directions也很明确的说明这是个VI。。
不是NN。。 。

我也对as a result of的用法有疑问,求助啊!

(B) prevented from having its acoustic energy dissipated byog解释:B This version of the sentence is wordy,
awkward, and indirect; from having... by erroneously suggests that the boundaries in the ocean are attempting to dissipate sound energy.

因为B的having..dissipated by和D的being dissipated都有被动的含义,所以by boundaries和as a result of boundaries都可以修饰这个成分,也可修饰prevent,所以就不知道到底是prevent了还是dissipate了。

另,ron关于as a result 和 by的区别供大家参考:

"as a result of" doesn't make sense, because (as you can discern from context) the energy is actually prevented from dissipating BY the boundaries.

"as a result of" suggests indirect causation. i.e., when you write “x happened as a result of y”, the implication is that y didn't cause x directly, although y was in some way ultimately responsible for x.

e.g.
if 500 people actually died IN an explosion, you could write
500 people were killed by the explosion.

on the other hand, if some or all of these people didn't actually die in the explosion itself, but died from other causes related to the explosion -- e.g., the explosion released carbon monoxide, which ultimately killed them later -- then that sentence would be inaccurate. in this case, you could write
500 people were killed as a result of the explosion.

我想论证一下OG对D的解释:“as a result of ...” 但是句中有两个动词(虽然处于不同语态)prevented和being dissipated,那么问题来了,“as a result of ”到底修饰哪个动词呢?所以OG会说as a result makes it unclear whether the boundaries contribute to energy loss or prevent it.
