我个人认为这里选which和ing没有本质区别，两者可以互换。
一般来讲现在分词表示持续性的动作，强调状态; 定从表示一次性动作。强调动作。
但是因为最后的but后用动词原形denude, 所以surface fire后面就需要用动词原形。or后边用了动词原形，所以either后面也用动词原形。所以选B
